From the Grimoire

The Quiet Ritual of an Evening Cup

I'll be honest.
I didn't always understand why people made such a big deal about "evening routines."
For years, my evening routine was basically...
Get home.
Figure out what everyone else needed.
Wonder why there were seventeen cups scattered around the house.
Realize I hadn't had a sip of water since lunch.
Question all of my life choices.
You know...
The usual.
😂
It wasn't until I started intentionally making a cup of tea every evening that I realized it had almost nothing to do with the tea.
Well... okay... it had a little to do with the tea.
But mostly, it was the five minutes while the kettle was heating.
You literally can't rush boiling water.
Trust me.
I've tried.
And during those five minutes, something interesting started happening.
I'd lean against the counter.
The dogs would eventually settle down.
The dishes could wait another ten minutes.
My phone would stop yelling at me for just a minute.
And my brain would finally quit trying to solve next Tuesday's problems.

Actually...
Now that I think about it...
I should probably apologize to my kettle.
It has unknowingly become my therapist.
Anyway...

By the time the tea was finished steeping, I wasn't a different person.
The stress hadn't magically disappeared.
The laundry still needed folded.
Life was still... life.
But I was calmer.
More present.
Like my brain had finally stopped sprinting long enough to remember that I was allowed to exist too.
That's why I make tea.
Not because I need caffeine.
Not because someone on the internet told me about self-care.
Because for five quiet minutes every evening...
I remember to take care of myself too.
And honestly?
That's a little bit of magic.

Tonight's Invitation

Make a cup of tea.
Leave your phone in the other room.
Stand by the window while it steeps.
Don't try to accomplish anything.
Just let yourself exist for five minutes.
I have a feeling the world will still be there when you're finished.

From my kitchen to yours,
Crystal
